“In an environment where you are supported,
your technical knowledge can truly thrive.”

  • Name: Gohar Adamyan
  • Age: 28
  • Studies: Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management (Odisee) and Master’s degree in Business Administration (VUB)
  • Function: Facility Coordinator
  • Hobbies: Volleyball and traveling

Why did you choose to study Facility Management?

Gohar: I discovered Facility Management through a friend, although I initially had a very different impression of what the field involved. During my studies, I learned that it was far more technical than I had anticipated, which sometimes made me doubt myself, as I found the technical subjects challenging. Still, I persisted, mainly because I was drawn to the project-based and problem-solving approach. When I joined VINCI Energies, I realized that, fortunately, I did not have to master everything at once. I can rely on technicians and professionals for the implementation, while gradually gaining my own experience. I also benefit from training, including courses on technology and customer satisfaction, which further expand my knowledge. My work environment also supported me a lot: colleagues are always willing to help and my manager trusts me and gives me room to grow. Thanks to this, despite the technical challenges, I continue to enjoy my job and am motivated every day.

What personal qualities help you most in this job?

Gohar: I am very eager to learn, and it helps that every day is different. Some days involve small tasks, like fixing a faulty printer or addressing a leaking pipe, while other days bring bigger challenges, such as coordinating a move, which requires more technical insight. It is precisely this variety that gives me energy. At times, it can feel overwhelming because I am mainly confronted with problems that need to be solved quickly. Still, it gives me a lot of satisfaction when everything finally runs smoothly and the customer is happy. In my job, I have learned that you need to be tough and able to cope with stress. Customers can be critical, but I try not to take that personally, to understand their situation and to work in a solution-oriented way. My friends often tell me they admire how I handle such situations, but for me, it is simply part of who I am.

What has been most important in helping you grow in a technical role?

Gohar: For me, ‘learning by doing’ is far from a cliché—it is part of my daily reality. Being in an environment where colleagues are supportive and feedback is taken seriously allows you to gradually build both technical knowledge and self-confidence. Having role models to look up to has also been crucial. My manager motivates me to eventually take on leadership responsibilities, while at home my father taught me the value of perseverance and hard work. I truly believe that women bring a unique value to this sector. It is not just about technical expertise, as qualities like clear communication and a solution-oriented mindset are equally important and should never be underestimated. My advice to others is: do not be intimidated. I, too, had doubts when I first realized the technical depth involved in this field, but with persistence, you can grow and truly find your place in this sector.
